Using the health belief model regarding HIV/AIDS prevention among female high school students

Abstract:

Introduction: As previous evidences , unsafe sexual behavior is playing an increasingly important role in the currently growing incidence of in Iran. This study aimed to design and evaluate the effects of educational program on perceptions of high school female students based on health belief model. Method and Material: This interventional study was performed among students studying in female high schools of Tehran, Iran. Participants were selected from 9th, 10th and 11th grades. According the sample size all students in these degrees were selected if they were satisfied to participate in the study. Data were collected using a valied self administered questionnaire based on HBM model at initial of the study and 2- month follow up. Results: Totally 149 student including 77 students in intervention group and 72 students in control group were assessed. The intervention group were educated through an educational package based on HBM model through focus group and lectures in small groups of 6 to 8 participants. Two group were the same at the beginning of the study in terms of all variables (P<0.05). However there were significant differences between two groups in terms of all studied variables after intervention at 1- month follow up (P<0.001).
